The Story of the Agave Reserve Tequila by Herradura

7-29-2013 – In late August, Agave will present their unique, private blend tequila by Herradura with special events at each restaurant.
For restaurateurs Julian Ramos, Federico Ramos and their sister Faviola Ramos, this event is a landmark in the accomplishment of a long held dream.

It was in 2009 that they acted on the vision they had brought with them from the early days in Mexico by opening a brand new restaurant in the Issaquah Highlands. As a tribute to the plant that is the source of all true tequilas, they named the restaurant Agave. It had a different concept from other Mexican restaurants. The foundation of the idea was to stock a large collection of tequilas and introduce customers to new tequilas that would suit their taste, but broaden their experience with fine tequilas. The tequilas would be complemented by a menu of Mexican inspired food with a contemporary influence.

At the time, there was very little appreciation of fine tequilas and tequila culture here. Four years later, Agave carries 150 unique tequilas. Chosen by Ramos family, these are the tequilas they enjoy and want to share with their customers.

With 150 tequilas in stock, and a following of tequila lovers, they decided it was time they had their own.

A team from Agave traveled to Jalisco to find just the right tequila to represent the Agave palate. At Casa Herradura they tasted three candidates, reposado tequilas still in their original barrels. They chose just the right one and it was put into another barrel for additional aging.  After the Agave team selected just the right barrel, Herradura Master Distillers finished the aging to obtain just the right flavor. This process is the source of designation “double barrel reposado”, aged long enough to be an anejo but recasked during the aging process.

During the third week of August, Agave will debut the double reposado created by the artisans at historic Casa Herradura in Amitatlan, Jalisco, MX. Our gracious hosts from Casa Herradura will be visiting and join us for the festivities.
